The Universe of Us – Lang Leav – Book Review
The book ‘The Universe of Us’ by Lang Leave was hands down one of my recent favorites. The way Lang Leave writes is extraordinary! This book depicts a story through poetry and prose which I find more unique than most books in this same category. I’ve read the Ellen Hopkins series which have a similar format. Also, if you are familiar with the book Milk & Honey this is also a similar format but different! The book doesn’t always have a…
…consistent rhythm and I like that I couldn’t tell where Lang was going to take the story next. It’s extremely easy for me to pick up on poetry rhythm in books like this and it begins to get boring and easily calculated for me. However, with this book that was not the case. The Universe of Us is about the different worlds of love the narrator experiences with other people and within herself throughout her lifetime. Lang writes in a way where the reader can feel and imagine every emotion the character is going through on a very personal level. This book will hit close to home in practically everyone’s whose ever experienced loves heart. I do think this book has an art form to it that not a majority of people can or will pick up on.. so it’s definitely not a book for everyone because of the way it’s written. It’s free form poetry and prose and it doesn’t often play by the rules which is what I did like about it. I definitely recommend this book. There are an insane amount of quotes and pages that I saved, but I don’t want to ruin certain discoveries you may find. These are some of my favorite quotes from ‘The Universe of Us’:
